With growing crime rate against women in Delhi, people have become apprehensive about sending their daughters, wife, sister to the city. There are times when working women get late at office and when they step out of their work place, they are prepared to deal with those weird gazes, humiliating comments and teasing. I am a working woman too, after the clock strikes 7, I get worried about myself. The ’30 minutes’ of travelling seems like it’ll take ages and once I step in my home, the sigh of relief comforts me.
Keeping such similar situations in mind, the Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday launched a mobile-phone based application for the safety of women (specifically working women) in New Delhi.
Named ‘Himmat’ it is an initiative by Delhi Police for women safety. The application was launched basically for the employed women who travelling alone sometimes late at night. The name of the app itself literally mean ‘Courage’.
Himmat application and service are to be used only when there is a threat to Life and Limb.
Users can easily download the app – Himmat from Delhi Police website or Google Play on their smartphones.
– A new user has to register with the Delhi Police website by sharing their name, mobile number and that of a minimum of two relatives/friends.
-Once the User registers, the user will get a SMS on mobile number given at the time of registration with a download link and registration key. User has to enter this key in the registration window in the application. This is a one-time process.
Apart from the friends/relatives, an SMS alert relating to the distress is sent simultaneously to police control room. The CPCR takes further action.
